Natural Swimming Pools FAQ's
Will the Natural Swimming Pool be Very Warm?
The filtration units comprise of a pump chamber that will draw the warmer water from the regeneration zone via a manifold which is situated at the bottom of the media. When the water is taken from the shallower areas of the pool it will have been heated by the sun. The regeneration area really acts like a natural solar panel and the average pool will fluctuate between 24° & 30° in the warmer months. This water is then pumped to the deeper areas. Our consultants will be happy to discuss alternative methods of heating.
Will my Natural Swimming Pool get an Algal Bloom?
Because of our countries tap water having high levels of nitrate and phosphate, there is a slight possibility of an algal bloom. This is normal and a natural occurrence that will happen in the maturation process and usually lasts no more than a few weeks. See Filtration for more details.
What about Floating Debris in the Natural Swimming Pool?
Animal friendly skimmers will be installed within the regeneration zone to skim off any floating debris or tree pollen.
Do I have to Maintain my Natural Swimming Pool?
Although there is far less maintenance than a conventional swimming pool, the bottom of the pool will occasionally need hoovering so we also include a pond vacuum which is very easy to use. Annually the plants will need cutting back, usually in the autumn and we would recommend putting a net over the pool during the winter months.
Are Natural Swimming Pools Safe?
Yes. As long as the system is properly maintained, the majority of pathogens are broken down and risks are very low. Many pools have undergone testing and exceeded EU Standards for Safety & Water Quality. Also there are a lot of public pools that have been built with no risk. Many have undergone testing and have exceeded all EU standards for both safety and water quality. The water tested in large public swimming pools were reported to conform to the strict EU standards.
How big does a Natural Swimming Pool need to be?
We can design a pool to your garden. Usually we recommend the regeneration area to be no less than half of the swimming area, however; If the area is restricted, we can compensate the plants with extra filtration below ground.
Can I convert my Pond/Pool to a Natural Swimming Pool?
Yes. We can convert either a garden pond or conventional swimming pool to a Natural Swimming Pool. With a pool you can use the existing swimming pool area and we would build the regeneration around the outside. With a pond, we can either extend or deepen it.
The most important thing is that there are no chemicals to add!
