Aqua Landscape Design Ltd is an award winning, well established aquatic landscaping company focused on delivering high quality work and excellent service. With over 100 years combined experience within the Aquatics and landscaping industry, our specialist staff and consultants are fully trained and qualified in Aquatics and Ornamental Fish Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture and Landscape Design. Andy McConnachie
Managing Director
Andy’s school days work experience was at Sparsholt College Hampshire and he was the only pupil at school who was interested in fish. Upon leaving school he decided to work at one of Europe's biggest trout farms in 1994 which included river keeping for a prestigious fishery off the River Test where he gained relevant experience before returning to Sparsholt College Hampshire to study Aquatics & Ornamental Fish Management. It was at Sparsholt where he gained the majority of experience and found the love for water gardening, after completing the course he felt the need to continue his interests and went onto study Marine & Freshwater Biology at Colchester University. Andy spent a number of years designing and constructing aquariums, ponds and natural swimming pools in the UK and Europe for private and commercial contracts and in 2007 appeared on Channel Four’s Grand Design’s programme after building a wall divider aquarium for a Bournemouth Penthouse. Andy writes for several gardening magazines and presents talks to garden clubs in the Dorset & Somerset area on water gardening, he also lectures part time for colleges and institutions about how to construct, maintain and look after ponds for students and hobbyists.
Sam Roberts
PA & Customer Service Manager
Sam has worked with Andy for 7 years and is experienced in both the landscaping and retail sides of the business. Sam brings a wealth of experience in animal husbandry and customer service to the team and is the first point of contact for many of our landscaping projects.
Jane Piercy
Retail & Marketing Manager
With a degree in Zoology and a Masters in Animal Behaviour Jane gained marketing experience working in at a catalogue production company before joining Aqua Landscape Design for the launch of their Aquatic centre 3 years ago. With 15 years of experience in hobbyist aquaculture she brings knowledgeable expertise to the team and is currently studying an Advanced Diploma in Water Quality, Filtration, Fish biology and health.
Tom Harper
Assistant Retail Manager
Tom has a degree in Marine and Costal Management and also enjoys propagating corals as a hobby. He has a wealth of customer based experience from working at a large retail outlet.
Adam Yardley
Project Manager
Adam works on larger projects for private and commercial contracts and his background includes over 15 years experience in pond, pool and commercial water feature installations. He also graduated from Sparsholt College Hampshire in 1996 in Aquatics and Ornamental Fish Management and has been constructing ponds ever since. Adam worked for one of the UK’s largest Koi farms and has produced many high grade Koi for aquatic shops across the UK for a number of years, this has also given him a very good understanding in fish health and diagnosis.
Richard Cole
Project Foreman
Richard originally worked as a data cable technician up until 6 years ago when he decided that he preferred the outdoor life. Since working for us he has developed both a keen interest and a good understanding of pond construction & landscaping techniques and is now responsible for supervising staff on a wide selection of projects.
Luke White
Landscaping Apprentice
Luke started with us in January 2011 as a landscape apprentice and is full time. He works on smaller projects and has now constructed some small ponds on his own and looks forward to supervising smaller projects in the coming months.
Francis Saunders
Water Chemistry & Algae Consultant
Francis started out as an Environmental Microbiologist in Palo Alto, California where he completed a degree in Microbiology at Bristol University. In Palo Alto he researched into methods of recovering heavy metals from the industrial effluent discharges arising from the precious metal plating of satellite components for NASA. It was then he moved long a career path as an Environmental Scientist involving employment time with the US company ITT, International Biochemical's and Shell Chemicals UK.
Finally in 1990 he set up WEBS Ltd an Environmental Consultancy providing technical expertise to the water industry. This work led to the development of a range of technologies which are now widely employed in the aquatics industry. This gave rise to a new company, Eco Pond Ltd, focussing on these new technologies. As a result for the last 10 years he has been actively engaged with Eco Pond in a range of world wide projects, including prawn farms in China, the impact of the petrochemical industry on water ways and aquatic life in Brazil, the aquacultural industry in Australia and Koi Farms in Japan.
Currently he is working on a range of consultancy projects including the control of algae in Fenland drains with the Fens Drainage Boards and the suppression of Lemna in Thames marinas. He is also actively involved in the management of water quality in the London Olympic Park.
Craig Baldwin
Livestock Consultant
Craig was a lecturer at Sparsholt College Hampshire for over 15 years and is recognised across the industry for his knowledge and expertise in the aquatics field. His specialist subject is life support systems including; filtration, heating, lighting and water quality parameters. He also has an extensive knowledge of planted aquariums and writes a number of articles for Practical Fish Keeping and Koi magazines.
John Field
Aquaculture Consultant
John has over 30 years experience in fisheries construction and management and is highly qualified as our lakes and waterways specialist. He currently manages over 150 acres of water, including two coarse and ornamental fish farms in the south of England. John has extensive specialist knowledge with water usage. He is able to assess project viability and offer practical experience, in the construction and maintenance of lakes and water control mechanisms.
Amy Perkins
Designer, Hampshire
Amy Perkins, is a qualified Garden Designer who trained at Sparsholt College Hampshire. Amy uses a creative and thoughtful approach to garden design; drawing on a wide range of experience designing projects for private clients, from small suburban gardens through to large country properties. She has also been involved in various Gold and Silver Gilt winning medals at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show.
Veronica Mackinnon
Designer & Writer Dorset, Wiltshire, Somereset, Hampshire, Berkshire
A Chelsea medal winner in 2003, Veronica has designed gardens across England and abroad. She is currently working on a Lutyens garden near Guildford (including the restoration of a large water garden assisted by Aqua Landscape Design Ltd) amongst many others in Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and beyond. Veronica's book 'The Top 100 Gardens of Britain' was published in 2004 and she contributes to several publications. She is delighted to have been writing the monthly gardening feature for Hampshire Society Magazine for nearly five years. Veronica is also working on a new book. She is proud to be a Member of the Garden Media Guild. Veronica also runs garden tours to private gardens across the south of England, and with James Bolton Garden Tours to Italy and abroad.
